Reading List 2011

Last year was a pretty tough year for book reading! I had a list of 24 which I set myself in January 2010 and at last look I had read just seven from the list but on reflection I have read at least ten that weren’t on the list at all!

So for 2011 I have decided to write a list of 12 books that I will definitely read and then set myself another 12 to that I read 24 in total (or more hopefully).

My 12 to read are:

  1. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie – Muriel Spark
  2. The God Delusion – Richard Dawkins
  3. At Home – Bill Bryson
  4. Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro
  5. Sister – Rosamund Lupton
  6. The God of Small Things – Arundhati Roy
  7. The First Rumpole Omnibus – John Mortimer
  8. A Florentine Death – Michele Giuttari
  9. Nantucket Nights – Elin Hilderbrand
  10. On Beauty – Zadie Smith
  11. Mrs Dalloway – Virginia Woolf
  12. Either Labyrinth or The Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse

I’ll embolden once I finish and hopefully at the end of 2011 will add a list of the other 12 books I’ve read.

This year I’ve joined a book group – so I’m sure there will be more to add unless we use my list to pick the books!

I like your list. Strangely I have read none of these. This is in complete contrast with Word Ferret’s list at http://elizadashwood.wordpress.com/the-book-list-2011/. Good luck in your reading!

  2. Lovely idea to have an inspired list. I too like your
choices tho’ have not managed to catch the appeal of Kate Mosse.
Labyrinth struck me as a slightly better than a Dan Brown. Off now
to compose my own list! Hazel

Hi Hazel Christie – never seen the appeal to Kate Mosse either but people keep giving me her books as presents so feel I ought to try and read at least one!

Hi Hazel Hall – I can’t believe how different my list is to Eliza’s either – it was her that started me off with the reading list….
